Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Riverbot — the website at riverbot.app and our iOS, Android and Apple Watch apps — operated by TPNet Industries Corporation (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.

The short version

• Riverbot watches public river gauges and tells you when flow and temperature land in the range you set. It’s a decision aid, not a guarantee.
• Play it safe on the water. Always check conditions yourself before you go.
• Use your own account, don’t abuse the service, and don’t scrape it.
• River data comes from public government sources. We attribute them; they don’t endorse us.
• The service is free today. If we add paid features later, we’ll say so clearly before you’re charged.

This is a decision aid, not a safety device

Riverbot reports flow, water temperature and forecast conditions drawn from public gauges, and flags when they fall in the window you set. That’s a convenience for planning a trip — it is not a substitute for your own judgement, local knowledge, or on-site observation.

Rivers are dangerous and conditions change fast. Gauges can lag, malfunction, go offline, or be positioned away from the exact water you intend to fish. Forecasts are estimates and become less reliable further out — we publish each forecast’s accuracy against a baseline for exactly this reason, and you should read the outer days as a trend, not a prediction. Never rely on Riverbot for your safety. Check the water yourself, watch for hazards, follow local regulations, and wear appropriate safety gear. You are responsible for your own decisions on and around the water.

Fishing regulations are someone else’s

Where we surface fishing regulations, seasons or species information, it’s compiled from official sources for convenience and may be incomplete, regional, or out of date. The governing authority’s rules always take precedence. Verify seasons, limits and licences directly with the relevant provincial, state or federal authority before you fish — every regulations screen in the app tells you this, and we mean it.

Your account

• You’re responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your password safe. We strongly recommend enabling two-factor authentication.
• You can register with email and password or use an available Apple, Microsoft, or Google sign-in option. Keep access to your chosen sign-in account and your Riverbot contact email so you can recover access.
• Provide accurate information, and one account per person.
• You must be old enough to form a binding contract and not barred from using the service. Riverbot is not directed at children under 13.
• Let us know at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.

Acceptable use

When you use Riverbot, you agree not to:

• Scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or hammer the service or its data endpoints (we rate-limit for the protection of the public gauge APIs we depend on).
• Resell, republish, or redistribute the service or its data as your own.
• Use the service to send spam, or to violate any applicable law.
• Probe, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its infrastructure.
• Misrepresent that your use of the data is official, or imply endorsement by us or by the data providers.

Data sources & attribution

River readings come from public hydrometric networks — Environment and Climate Change Canada (GeoMet), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the Grand River Conservation Authority, and Open-Meteo for weather — used under their respective open licences, including the Open Government Licence – Canada. Weather and map tiles come from their own public providers. Swiss flow data is from the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN, Hydrological observations, under its source-attribution-required open-data terms. Canterbury pilot flow data is sourced from Environment Canterbury's Environmental Observations API under CC BY 4.0. Those near-real-time values are provisional, may be revised, and are removed from display when they are not current. Wellington Region flow data is sourced from the Greater Wellington Regional Council's River Flows service and Hilltop time-series service under CC BY 4.0; those values are also provisional.

These providers publish open data; none of them endorse, certify, or are affiliated with Riverbot. Any “data” we show is attributed to its source and is not official advice from those agencies.

Your content & our content

You keep ownership of the setpoints, favourites and preferences you create — you’re simply giving us permission to store and use them to run the service for you. Riverbot itself (the software, design, text and branding) belongs to us and is protected by intellectual-property law; you have a personal, non-transferable licence to use it as intended.

Price

Riverbot is free to use today, with no advertising. We may introduce optional paid features in the future (for example, more stations or faster alerts). If and when we do, we’ll describe the price and terms clearly before any charge, and the free experience will keep working. You will never be charged without your explicit agreement.

No warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, or that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We work hard to keep the data fresh and the service up, but public gauges and upstream providers go down, and we can’t promise otherwise.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TPNet Industries Corporation will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or use, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service, however caused and under any theory of liability. This includes, without limitation, any decision you make based on the information the service provides, and any injury, loss, or damage sustained on or around the water. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, while the service is free, is nothing). Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Suspension & termination

You can close your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or terminate access that violates these terms or harms the service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including the warranty and liability sections) will do so.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. If a change is material, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, where reasonable, give you notice. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the service will be brought in the courts located in Ontario.
